Form Studio, straws, light

I took a crack at the first form studio assignment today. Here are a few of the images.

design writing reading

From one of our first reading assignment in Design Writing, God Bless You, Mr. Vonnegut, by George Saunders.
The experiences you have had, he seemed to be saying, are the experiences you have had. They are fine, they are perfect, they are plenty. What else would you possibly use to make art? Skim over the things you know, joke about them, avoid directly exploiting them, shroud them in an over-story about aliens: You know what you know, and that knowledge will not be shaken out of your literature [applicable to anything we create or do in life, really] no matter how breezy, or comic, or minimalistic your mode of expression is.
This touches on something I struggle with often. Unlike all those tweeters, bloggers, facebookers, instagramers, and status updaters, I don't want details of my personal experiences to show up in a stranger's Google search; however, being a designer (or a CCA student) requires an online presence.

If we are all creating art based on our personal experiences, can you avoid over exposure? Maybe all the messy details can be covered up with a story about an alien ship a la Vonnegut.
