[interaction practice] final project

(Going back and doing some blogging catch-up this week from the fall semester. Also, eek gad, how is it already the mid-point of spring semester!?)

I'm not going to lie, this class was a source of tears...more than once.

Learning a programming language is really hard, but getting through it and building something you're proud of is pretty awesome.

My final project for this class mixed Processing and Arduino. The onscreen prompt asked you to type a message and press 'enter'. Processing encodes each letter into a row of half rectangles and sends the resulting pattern to the Arduino. The encoded rows below are for the letters r, a, and e.

My Arduino was hooked up to a thermal printer, and on button press, the printer printed out a strip of paper with your secret message and a time stamp.

The printed slip of paper is perfect to tape to your desk or to keep in your wallet. A subtle reminder that carries meaning to you only.
